How to mentally help overcome your weakness in the gym

When you are at the gym, what would you consider a weakness that you have? Write that down. It can possibly be two or three things, that is okay. Let’s say one weakness a person has is expressing themselves when it comes to performing certain exercises. Such as, thinking you are not doing the exercise correctly. One thing that can help overcome your weakness, is you need to learn to be more comfortable with yourself. You might think that you are already, but if you don’t try an exercise because there is to many people around, or you are afraid of messing up, you are not comfortable with yourself. That leads to the next subject which is confidence. A major key in life, especially in the gym, is having confidence.

The lack of confidence can hold you back more than you think from achieving your goals. Personally, I know some people who will not enter the free weight room because it seems so tempting and scary. They think that because of all the guys and girls slamming weights, or the amount of people holds them back. I always try to get my clients into those rooms, because I know how important free weights are, and the confidence and knowledge they need. Don’t be afraid of messing up or people judging. Some people might look like they know what they are doing, but have no clue. They might even be feeling the same as you, but they still go in and try. You are at the gym, be confidence in your goal, and don’t be nervous to go and try something you are uncomfortable with. Just make sure it is safe.

People are there to help you. They gym can make a person nervous, especially starting out. But, you must remember that there is always someone or people who can help you. If you think are the best but still wondering about an exercise, just ask. If you are starting out and nervous on what to do, or if the movement is correct, just ask. Sure, there might be crazy looking people in the gym, but some know what they are talking about and can give you an answer. If you can’t get an answer, generally people who work at the gym can help. The main things to remember about overcoming your weakness or weaknesses, is to be comfortable with yourself, be confident, ask questions, and just enjoy the learning process and growing. Don’t worry about what other people think, push yourself, achieve your goal, and get results.
